In this Paediatric Masterclass, attendees will learn about two major components of infancy and neonate management; plagiocephaly and Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip. This session will focus on evidence-based management, updates in long-term outcomes, as well as learning appropriate examination techniques for assessing.

Learning Objectives for the day:

Session 1 – Plagiocephaly

  • Identifying and differentiating deformational plagiocephaly
  • Develop your understanding on pathogenesis of plagiocephaly
  • Develop your understanding on potential risks of plagiocephaly
  • Discuss the current options regarding management and their potential outcomes
  • Develop an understanding behind the role of the chiropractor for cases of deformational plagiocephaly

Session 2 – Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH)

  • Understanding normal hip development
  • Understanding the development of hip pathology including risk factors
  • Develop your understanding on the process of mechanotransduction and its involvement in DDH
  • Discuss current advancements in management of DDH

Session 3 – Practical Components of Plagiocephaly and DDH

  • Learn or review common assessment techniques for plagiocephaly, including cervical spine assessment and treatment options (and more on force of course!)
  • Learn or review common tests for detecting or screening for DDH
